June Fishing Report

We have finally gotten a good bit of rain that is starting to chip away at our drought conditions, and all of our bodies of water have benefitted greatly. The Delayed Harvest trout water has ended and as a result, most of the trout fishing will move to the smaller, colder streams. The main target on the larger rivers is now smallmouth bass, which are quite active this time of the year. In the lakes, the bass are in their post-spawn behaviors and moving out to deeper water to feed on baitfish (shad and herring). Time of day is becoming increasingly important for all species, as the fish are generally more active in the morning and the bite slows down as it starts to get hot. An early start is your best chance at more aggressive eats. The trout streams at lower elevations have been fishing drastically worse the more the sun warms up the water. Hot flies include hoppers, squirmy worms, pheasant tails, and caddis patterns. Hot lures for bass include crankbaits, paddle tails, shaky head, and jigs. June can be a great month of fishing, so get with us and let us help you get out on the water!
